The Kings County area of Nova Scotia is forested in its southern section but very little of it is has been set aside for wildlife habitat as a wilderness area. The Blomidon Naturalists Society learned from preliminary surveys in that area that there are species of concern whose habitat needs protecting. This prompted the Society to propose that a couple of blocks of forest be designated as Wilderness Areas under the Nova Scotia Wilderness Areas Protection Act. Old forests are an important habits for many of the most endangered wildlife and those are area to be found. The province has specified only one small area in Kings County under its Old Forest Policy. There are definitely more that need to be found.
